A Hamilton woman who was the victim of a hit-and-run while she was out walking in the city’s east end last week has died from her injuries.

Officers were called to a collision on Mount Albion Rd. just north of Hixon Rd. around 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 14.

Police say a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV was traveling northbound on Mount Albion Rd. when the driver lost control, mounted the sidewalk and struck a 55-year-old woman.

They say the driver got out of the vehicle, spoke with witnesses, and then left the area on foot.

The woman was transported to hospital in critical condition. Investigators say she died from her injuries five days later. Police will not be releasing her identity.

The driver who fled the scene turned himself in on Sept. 16.

Fifty-two-year-old Christopher Mulligan, of Hamilton, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, fail to remain cause death, and fail to comply with probation.

Investigators are asking any witnesses who have not yet reached out to police to call 905-546-4755 or 905-546-4753.

This is the city’s 12th traffic fatality of the year and the fifth involving a pedestrian.
