OPP investigates fatal two-vehicle crash

Ontario Provincial Police say one person is dead following a two-vehicle collision in Norfolk County.

Emergency crews were called to Cockshutt Rd. and Concession 3 of Townsend, just outside Waterford, Ont., around 6:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Police say two vehicles collided at the intersection.

One of the vehicles ended up on its side in a nearby cornfield while the other sustained extensive damage to the windshield and front bumper.

Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said one person was pronounced dead at the scene. “Our thoughts and prayers are going out to everyone affected by this tragedy,” said Sanchuk in a video posted on Twitter.

Sanchuk said some passersby stopped to help those involved in the crash.

Police have not released the identity of the victim.

There were several road closures in the area as police investigated the collision but they have since reopened.
