Man seriously injured in collision with Halton police cruiser, SIU investigates

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a crash that sent a driver to hospital and injured a Halton police officer.

The crash happened on Wednesday on Steeles Ave., just east of James Snow Parkway in Halton Hills.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says a Halton police cruiser and another vehicle collided shortly before 9 p.m.

The SIU says the driver of the vehicle was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The police officer was also injured but was not taken to hospital.

The SIU has assigned five investigators, including one forensic investigator and one collision reconstructionist, to the case.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this collision to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

Steeles Ave. East between James Snow Parkway and Fifth Line is closed and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
