A funeral will be held Monday for a veteran Toronto police officer who died in the line of duty.

Friends and family will say goodbye to Const. Jeffrey Northrup in a private funeral at BMO Field in downtown Toronto.

Investigators say Northrup was killed in a deliberate act earlier this month while responding to a report of a robbery in a parking lot at Toronto City Hall.

The 55-year-old died after being struck by a vehicle. His partner was also injured during the incident.

A 31-year-old man was arrested and has been charged with first-degree murder.

A public visitation was held for Northrup on Sunday at a funeral home in Thornhill although attendance was limited due to COVID-19 restrictions.
