Environment Canada says a heat warning remains in effect with ‘hot and humid’ conditions continuing Tuesday in the Golden Horseshoe Area.

Temperatures are expected to climb to 34 C but with humidex values will feel closer to 40 C.

Hamilton, Halton Region, Niagara Region, and surrounding areas can expect high heat and humidity.

Officials say these extreme temperatures can affect everyone but those at greater risk include young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and people working or exercising outdoors.

Symptoms of heat-related illness can include swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and the worsening of some health conditions.

Residents are reminded to drink plenty of water even before they feel thirsty and stay in a cool place. Also, never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

The weather agency says a cold front is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night, bringing an end to the high heat and humidity.
