McMaster University researchers have entered the next stage of testing for a new way to COVID-19 vaccine.

The university is working with Rapid Dose Therapeutics for a made-in-Canada oral vaccine  — a quick dissolve strip infused with the vaccine.

It would mean no needles or need for cold storage. It also has the potential for people to administer it themselves.

Researchers have completed the first stage of testing.

The second stage will involve infusing a strip with the SARS- CoV-2 spike protein and trying to generate an immune response in animal models.
