One person dead after house fire in Milton overnight

The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called to investigate a fatal fire in Milton overnight.

Emergency crews were called to a home on Steeles Ave. W around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday for reports a fire in part of a six-unit townhouse

The main floor of the home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived. They were told one person was believed to be still inside.

Police tried to get inside the building to find the missing occupant, but were forced back by the flames and heavy smoke.

The body of an unidentified person was later found inside the home after the Milton Fire Department extinguished the fire.

No other residents were injured, but two officers were assessed by EMS at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.
