Ontario reports 2,333 cases of COVID-19 and 15 deaths

Ontario reported 2,333 cases of COVID-19 and 15 deaths on Wednesday.

The results come as the province completed 52,532 tests. The reported positivity rate, which takes into account the date tests were done, is 4.8 per cent.

Another 1,973 cases were marked as resolved.

Here are the COVID-19 numbers for our region

Hamilton

  • 12,854 total cases — up 124 from Tuesday
  • 11,518 resolved cases
  • 816 active cases
  • 97 in hospital
  • 315 deaths — up three from Tuesday
  • 97,259 vaccine doses given

Halton

  • 10,981 total cases — up 78 from Tuesday
  • 10,338 resolved cases
  • 443 active cases
  • 30 in hospital
  • 200 deaths
  • 695 total variant cases (includes confirmed cases and those who screened positive)

Niagara

  • 9,686 total cases — up 68 from Tuesday
  • 8,765 resolved cases
  • 545 active cases
  • 10 in hospital
  • 375 deaths
  • 23,343 vaccine doses administered by Niagara Public Health

Brant

  • 1,800 total cases — up 12 from Tuesday
  • 1,701 resolved cases
  • 86 active cases
  • 13 deaths
  • 1 in hospital
  • 26,294 vaccine doses given; 2,570 people fully vaccinated

Haldimand-Norfolk

  • 1,642 total cases — up 13 from Tuesday
  • 1,511 resolved cases
  • 87 active cases
  • 39 deaths
  • 19,517 vaccine doses given; 1,627 people fully vaccinated

A record 89,873 vaccine doses were administered since Tuesday’s report. In total, 2,192,253 doses have been given.

There are 315,820 Ontario residents who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 across the province is up to 1,111.  Patients in intensive care is up to 396 with 252 of them on ventilators.

Another 98 cases of the B.1.1.7 lineage of the virus, which was first reported in the U.K., have been confirmed for a total of 1,898.

There is one more confirmed case of the B.1.351 strain, first reported in South Africa, for 70 cases.

There are 92 confirmed cases of the P.1 strain first reported in Brazil – two more than on Tuesday.
