A 55-year-old man was critically injured in a fire at an apartment building in Welland Wednesday morning, Niagara police say.
Emergency crews were called to the building in the area of Denistoun St. and Lincoln St. around 6:50 a.m. There was a fire inside one of the units.
Firefighters rescued a man from inside. He was taken to an out-of-region hospital and is in critical but stable condition.
Police say several residents of the building had to leave because of heavy smoke.
