Halton Region provides some details on its COVID-19 vaccination plan

Halton Region has released details about its plan for COVID-19 vaccinations clinics, which the region says it’s ready to open once vaccine supplies are secured.

“Halton Region staff have been working tirelessly to ensure we are prepared to vaccinate our residents, starting first with our most vulnerable populations,” said Halton Regional Chair, Gary Carr.

“Like other regions, our ability to get these sites operational is dependent on supply from the Federal Government. These clinics are in addition to our mobile teams vaccinating residents in long-term care and retirement homes, Halton Healthcare’s clinic for health care workers and our ongoing preparations to eventually provide vaccine to the rest of our community.”

There are four initial clinic locations:

• Gellert Community Centre in Georgetown
• St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre in Oakville
• Compass Point Bible Church in Burlington
• Milton Centre for the Arts in Milton

Officials say other locations could be identified as required.

The clinics aren’t yet open to the general public. They will first serve priority populations, as identified by the provincial government, beginning with adults 80 years and older.

The region says more information about openings and how to book an appointment will be made available when the amount of vaccines is confirmed.

As of Friday, the region had administered 23,934 vaccine doses.

The federal government says it’s expecting its largest shipment of COVID-19 vaccines to date this week.

On Monday, the provincial government said it was expecting Ontario’s 34 local public health units to design and carry out vaccination plans for residents.

The City of Hamilton has announced it will be opening a mass vaccination clinic. Officials will be providing an update on COVID-19 Tuesday at 4 p.m.
