The province’s police watchdog has been called in after a police standoff in Toronto turned deadly. Police say officers cornered a man around 12:30pm at a low-rise apartment on Sherbourne Street near Wellesley Street. That’s in Toronto’s downtown east-end. Officers were investigating a report the man had a gun. Paramedics say the middle-aged man suffered gunshot wounds and died. They say the shots may have been self-inflicted. The incident sent a nearby elementary school into lockdown as a precautionary measure.
