The Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls launched its 31st season tonight.

The federal government has declared 2013 “The Year of Korea,” and in honour of that The Winter Festival of Lights showcased Korean and Canadian cultures in its opening festivities today.

The day included performances by traditional Korean Dance and Drum Troupes.

Music ranged from a performance by Canadian singer Brooklyn Roebuck to bag pipes.

The day also commemorated Niagara’s Korean War veterans. Niagara Falls mayor Jim Diodati and defence minister Rob Nicholson were among the speakers.

Mayor Diodati presented veterans with certificates of recognition.
