Ford can’t be removed by force

Despite many councillors and citizens’ calling for Ford’s removal from office, the province says there is nothing it can do. According to the rules, Ford must willingly step down as Mayor something he’s already said he won’t do. Wednesday, Linda Jeffreys, the Municipal Affairs Minister, says the province has no current plans to take action: “We have no plans to step in. There’s an ongoing investigation. These are troubling allegations. There’s an ongoing investigation and the city has tools at its disposal should they choose to use them.”
If Ford is convicted of any crimes in the investigation, he will be forced out of office. There have been calls for the province to alter the Municipal Act, to have Ford removed.
