Motivational speakers visit Burlington school

A motivational speaking series with a different take took over a high school gymnasium in Burlington Monday afternoon.
“I know what it’s like. High school is a very difficult time.” That’s Canadian big mountain race skier Nadia Samer addressing the students and Frank Hayden Secondary alongside three time Olympian Andre Miklavc from Slovenia. The athletes described the challenges, obstacles and failures they dealt with, not just in their athletic careers, but also as they moved into new careers. Miklavc is now an entrepreneur and speaker while Samer still challenges the mountains in B.C., and is also studying health sciences at Simon Fraser University. The two opened up to the students about coming back from injuries and other set backs in their careers and then applied it to academics and beyond.
After the sessions, the students went back to class to discuss what they learned from the speakers. Our Nick Dixon was asked to moderate the event which gave the chance to interview the athletes and hear more about how they took whatever came at them and used it as a valuable experience.
