Cuts to halfway houses

The clock is ticking on corrections officers who currently monitor and keep track of parolees who live at a Hamilton halfway house downtown. Come spring, they’ll be gone, and that has the public concerned for their safety since the convicted sex offenders and violent parolees will then be able to sign in and out as they please. Cindy Csordas has reaction to the cuts.

This is all news to the Mayor of the city who had no idea this was about to happen. And NDP MP Wayne Marston says it’s unacceptable that the Harper government didn’t even talk to the municipality about something that affects the safety of the public.
