Police say that speed and alcohol were factors in a serious crash in Niagara Falls. A woman driving a car was trying to make a turn when it was struck by the pickup truck. She was airlifted to Hamilton General hospital where she was in serious condition.

The serious two vehicle collision happened at Stanley Avenue near McLeod Road. The impact was so severe, it tore the back end off the car. The incident happened at about 4pm. Collision re-construction officers are on the scene. The road will remain closed for a number of hours. Those in the area are being advised to stay away from the scene.

The truck may have been travelling as fast as 150 km/h in the posted 50 km/h zone. The driver of the truck was taken to a Niagara hospital with minor injuries and has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
