License fees on the way up

It’s about to get even more expensive to drive in this province. And we’re not talking about the price of gas (although that is supposed to take a big jump Wednesday night).

Starting in September, Ontario motorists will soon be paying more for driver and vehicle licences.

That means passenger vehicle licence validation fees in Southern Ontario will rise to $90 — an increase of eight bucks. While Northern Ontario will see the fees go up to $45, a four dollar increase. The cost of renewing a driver’s licence, or getting a new one will rise five dollars, to $80. While the fees for various driver examinations will increase by $5 to $10. The province says these fees, among several others, are being increased to help cover the rising costs of maintaining provincial roads, bridges and highways.
