Even without the “AWOL” Chris Williams, it’s been a case of many happy returns for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. And rookie Lindsey Lamar is the man providing the returns.

The 23-year old Tampa native is the CFL’s special teams player of the week. In his first professional regular season game last Friday against the Argos, Lamar returned the first kickoff he handled, 104 yards for a TD. He finished the game with six kickoff returns for 224 yards and four punt returns for 18 yards. Lamar played college ball at South Florida.

Other stars of the week in week 1 are Ricky Ray of the Argos. He is the offensive star after passing for 368 yards and 4 TD’s in Toronto’s 39-34 win over the Ticats. Calgary Stampeders running back, Jon Cornish, last year’s most outstanding Canadian, is the Canadian player of the week. He had 24 carries for 172 yards and two TD’s in the Stamps 44-32 win over the B.C. Lions. And Calgary defensive lineman Charleston Hughes is the defensive player of the week. He had 4 tackles and 3 quarterback sacks in the victory.
