Transitional funding for race tracks
The province has decided how much to award struggling race tracks in compensation for scrapping shared slot revenues.
Fort Erie will receive $5.5 million, Flamboro will get $3.6 million, and Woodbine will receive $38 million. This funding is meant to help the race tracks transition away from slot revenue.
Even with slot sharing, Fort Erie has been operating in the red. Members of the horse racing industry protested the government’s decision to scrap the slot revenue model, saying it would kill the horse racing industry.
