Flying with the Snowbirds

The Snowbirds will be performing at the Hamilton Air Show this weekend. And Friday, members of the CHCH news team had the opportunity to see what it’s like first hand to fly with the Canadian forces demonstration team. Cameraman Luke Gudgin was in the cockpit of one of the planes as the Snowbirds took flight. Luke is the one in the green jumpsuit.

It’s no easy task to fly in one of these jets. Luke told us at one point they hit 4g’s (four times the equivalent of earth’s gravity). And when that happened he could barely move his head. There were some special requirements that had to be met before takeoff. A medical was one; you have to be a specific height and weight . And there was some training involved specifically how to eject just in case.
