Blaze tears through Hamilton house

Firefighters are still at the scene of an overnight fire that caused extensive damage to a house in central Hamilton.

They arrived at the blaze at 82 Sanford Avenue North near Wilson Street just before 3 am.

Much of the damage was upstairs. Fire officials are still trying to determine the cause. They estimate damage could exceed $20,000.

The home was divided into an apartment on the main floor and another upstairs. The occupant on the second floor where the fire started arrived as crews were trying to extinguish the flames.
