Tech job opportunities for Blackberry employees
The Mayor of Waterloo hopes her city can weather the loss of more jobs at Blackberry.
Brenda Halloran says there’s been a trend where those affected by past layoffs have been absorbed by more than 800 technology companies
in the area. She says there are more than 1000 job opportunities in the region’s tech sector alone.
Last Friday, Blackberry announced it’s cutting 4500 jobs, but isn’t saying how many of those will be in Waterloo. Blackberry expects to post a loss of close to a billion dollars when it reports its second-quarter earnings on Friday.
