Fire tactic intended to smoke Emerald Ash Borers out

Beginning this week the city of Hamilton will be cutting and burning ash trees in Winona Park.

It’s part of a ten year plan to stop the spread of an invasive species of beetle, the Emerald Ash Borer. It’s an invasive species of insect that came over from Asia in the early 1990s. They are so threatening to the ash trees in Southern Ontario that in some cases the only option is to cut off their food supply and hope the population growth can be curbed.
