Buzzing it for a good cause
Students at the Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Hamilton are celebrating today, after surpassing their fundraising goal for the residential redevelopment association HARRRP.
The principal and vice-principal went under the buzzer to honour their success. The school raised $5,000 for the initiative – $2,000 above their original goal. Teacher Rita Bagnoli says it took a lot of hard work for the students to pull this all together.
“The money was raised over a 40 day period and we started on Ash Wednesday, ended it on Holy Thursday and we had a variety of different events. We had a wacky hair day, and kids donated. We also sold Kernels popcorn, and kids just brought in money every day.”
Up to 800 students also participated in a surprise flash mob, after their principal and vice-principal’s big reveal.
