Ex-Vertis workers block trucks

Former Vertis Communications workers stood their ground this morning.

They blocked a transport truck from getting onto the Stevensville property. Vertis abruptly shut down in January, and then told their 100 employees they wouldn’t be getting any severance pay – even though they’re legally entitled to it.

Picketers have been manning the front gate around the clock since the shutdown to stop the company from removing any equipment. The employees feel the equipment is the only leverage they have over the company.

The truck driver left after waiting more than an hour.

Tomorrow morning more than 100 Vertis employees and their supporters will be protesting outside the Cairn Croft Hotel
on Lundy’s Lane in Niagara Falls where Niagara Falls MP Rob Nicholson will be holding a breakfast meeting. They’re looking for some answers as to why he hasn’t offered them some help.
