Gas and dash bill presented

MPP Mike Colle reintroduced his private members bill, “Jayesh’s Law” Tuesday.

The private members bill was first introduced in the wake of last year’s death of gas station attendant Jayesh Prajapati. He was hit and killed in Toronto after chasing a man who left the gas station without paying. Now Colle has been trying to find ways to stop these gas and dash incidents. If passed, the bill would offer greater protection for gas station workers, and require customers to pre-pay before pumping gas.

“The very fact that there is a concern…. there is not a risk they should take for $10 an hour.”

The man involved in the gas and dash that killed Jayesh hasn’t been caught. Over 4,000 gas and dash incidents were reported last year in Ontario.
