‘Sticker Lady’ back in business?

Many shoppers who visit downtown Toronto’s Eaton Centre may recognize a panhandler who’s allegedly back in action.

She’s nicknamed the “sticker lady”, but in Hamilton neighbours know her as Catherine Hebert. Some people we spoke to today say she’s back on Yonge Street giving people stickers, and then begging for money.

“She showed me the sticker first and then I took the sticker and then she asked me for money. I gave her $2 or 3.”

Some say she told them she’s collecting for charity, which is what lead to a charge of theft under $5,000 in the summer of 2001. Toronto Police also spoke to Hebert in 2005.

Neighbours say her house is worth well over $330,000, and they’re baffled by her behaviour.

Tom Hall: “She might be a little embarrassed, ‘oh I don’t want people to see me’ so she goes to Toronto where nobody knows her and then she comes back.” Another neighbour identified only as Barry: “I don’t believe in anyone begging for money… if they can’t get out and work, that’s a problem.”

CHCH News tried to contact Catherine Hebert today, but she wasn’t answering her door or her phone.
