The Niagara Health Service (NHS) is cutting $13 million from their budget and part of the savings will result from the cutting of 12 jobs.

Of the $13 million the NHS has to cut, Interim NHS president and CEO Sue Matthews said hospital officials have already put into action a plan to slash $10 million. The 12 jobs come from the administration and support staff.

Operating rooms in the Welland, Niagara Falls and St. Catharines hospitals will also be shut down for six weeks, except for emergencies.

Also, parking fees at all NHS sites has been increased.

Matthews said they have yet to determine how the remaining $3 million in cuts will be found.
