Henniges demolition underway

Demolition is underway to more than 31-thousand square metres of the former Henniges automotive plant, including parts that were severely damaged by a fire in August.

Welland’s Chief Building Official, Mike Mantesso, says issuing the permit was delayed because the property owner was unsure what buildings he wanted to demolish.

He won’t identify this mysterious new owner, but he says he has plans for “some green type of industrial uses in the future.”

The property was purchased a few months before the fire happened and was listed for nearly $2 million.
