Province provides money for homeless
The province of Ontario will provide municipalities with a one time payment of $42 million to help cover cuts to homelessness programs.
Hamilton will receive just over $3 million.
Earlier this year, the province announced cuts to two programs; the community startup and maintenance benefit which helps combat homelessness, and discretionary health benefits which help people pay for things like glasses and dental care.
However, the money doesn’t cover the full cost of the programs which are pegged at $7.6 million.
Meanwhile, Niagara is set to receive $1.9 million.
