Woman hospitalized from fire

A Friday morning apartment fire in east Hamilton has sent a woman to hospital.

The alarms in the building went off just before 4:30am at the highrise on Melvin Avenue.

The woman was rescued from an apartment on the second floor, and is being treated for smoke inhalation.

Crews removed a mattress that’s believed to have been the source of the fire.

All the other tenants are now back in their apartments.
