Fire crews called to Waterdown High School

Firefighters say there was no actual blaze at Waterdown District High School, just heavy smoke – and the cause of that has been determined to be an electrical issue.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 7:30 this morning after an electrical panel started smoking. A total of seven trucks were dispatched to the building on Parkside Drive. Fire crews and maintenance workers spent the morning going room to room to try to find the cause of the fire. They found that a circuit in an electrical panel had snapped.

Witnesses CHCH News spoke to this morning say smoke could be seen on the second floor of the school, in the brand new wing that just had its opening ceremony last week.
