Cooking fires cause big damage

Hamilton fire officials say two cooking-related fires last night caused more than $350,000 in damage.

Officials say that both blazes were preventable.

A pot left unattended on the stove at a Wentworth Street South apartment caused the evacuation of the building and $20,000 in damage.

And a home on Rochelle Avenue caught fire after cooking oil over-heated on the BBQ.

No one was hurt in either blaze.
