Oakville’s Adam Van Koeverden is now Canada’s most decorated kayaker after winning silver in the K-1 1,000 metres. Norway won gold and Germany snagged the bronze. He’d been the favourite for gold going into the race; it’s his fourth medal in three Olympics.

Minutes after his race, Van Koeverden’s training partner and friend – Burlington’s Mark Oldershaw won bronze in the men’s C-1 1,000 metres. Oldershaw’s a third-generation Olympian but the first in his family to win a medal. He says it’s heavy, but he’s going to wear it for a while.

Our Kate Carnegie spoke with the Olympians today after their races. Both say they owe a lot of their success to their family and friends here at home.
