House fire jolts sleeping residents

Video added A central Hamilton family has been forced out of their home after a fire broke out in the apartment above them early this morning.

Crews were called just after five o’clock this morning to 186 Wellington Street North near Cannon. Officials say the man who lives in the top floor apartment wasn’t home at the time.

Everyone else who was in the unit below were able to get out safely, and are being looked after by the Hamilton Red Cross. Crews got the fire out 2 hours after it began. The cause is under investigation.
