Three Hamilton schools to close
Trustees vote to shut doors at Sir John A. Macdonald, Parkview and Delta.
A unanimous vote by the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board will result in the closure of the three high schools.
The plan is to secure provincial funding and build a new high school.
Students and teachers at those schools, particularly Parkview, where students say they’re benefiting from an alternative education program, are worried about what the vote will mean to them.
They point out they skipped school until they came to Parkview.
Paula Berollo, a teacher there, fears it’s going to mean a return to a 50 to 60 per cent drop out rate.
With declining enrolments, the Hamilton board wants fewer schols, equipped with better technology.
