Intense inferno on Stoney Creek waterfront
Updated Firefighters are controlling the hot spots after a $2 million Stoney Creek home went up in flames this afternoon.
The flames were so intense at one point, they could be seen from the CHCH Towercam, approximately eight kilometres from the scene near Watercrest Drive and Seabreeze Crescent, east of Glover Road. Smoke and flames were already visible when firefighters arrived. The call was upgraded to request extra help, when crews saw the size of the 3,000 square foot house. There were also reports of an explosion and the roof has collapsed.
Dave Christopher of the Hamilton Fire department says “in an older house that’s already complete you’d have all sorts of fire stops in place, but it’s possible being a newer home that might have allowed the fire to spread quickly because you have a lot more openings that normally wouldn’t be in place.”
Gas and electrical lines in the area were turned off. No one was hurt.
