Young Hamilton heart patient dies

Updated video A Hamilton girl who touched so many young lives has died.

Eleven days after receiving a heart transplant, Nicole Cassavettes died of an infection at the Hospital for Sick Children.

The Cassavettes family became known to Hamiltonians last year when it was reported that their car had been stolen, and along with it several important medical documents for Nicole. But the community rallied around them and was able to purchase the family a new car so that Nicole could be driven to and from Sick Kids while waiting for a donation.

Saltfleet High School has their flag at half mast today and will be doing another purple ribbon campaign, something which started here and has taken off around the world. The colour was chosen because it was Nicole’s favorite.
