Halton crime rate drops

Halton’s crime rate has dropped to its lowest levels in over three decades.

The latest figures released Thursday show there were 10% fewer crimes committed in 2011 than the year before.

The crime rate is now at its lowest since Halton region was formed in 1974.

There were fewer than 14,000 criminal offences reported in 2011.

That’s compared to almost 15,000 in 2010.

Despite the drop in crime, the number of car accidents in Halton increased 10%.
