Claremont cleanup expected to take days

(Video updated) The downbound lanes of the Claremont Access in Hamilton remain closed after yesterday’s retaining wall collapse.

Police and city workers are guarding the area. Engineers are on site today to get a better look at the damage.

The top section of the 40 year old double retaining wall collapsed, crushing the bottom wall, and causing trees, rocks and piles of mud to spill onto the road. General manager of public works Gerry Davis says the failure might have been caused by weather deterioration because of moisture build up behind the wall.
