Niagara man caught up in chop shop arrests
Police have arrested six people in a huge car theft bust, including one man from Niagara.
Over 500 charges have been laid against the Niagara man and five other men from Toronto, and over 100 stolen vehicles have been recovered.
One of the police raids connected to the case took place in a chop shop in Niagara-on-the-Lake last summer; in June, police searched Auto Enterprises on Lincoln Avenue.
Afterward, police charged George Tsigirlash, 42, with possession of stolen property and fraud over $5,000.
Sigurlash was set free on bail, but was allegedly caught again yesterday and now faces more charges.
Police say the stolen vehicles had their parts removed, re-built and re-sold with new vehicle identification.
The investigation began in 2009 and involved Niagara and Toronto police, the OPP and the Ministry of Transportation.
