A funeral will be held in Grenada on Monday for the 39-year-old Toronto man allegedly beaten to death by police while on vacation.

Family and friends of Oscar Bartholomew will gather in a Grenada church to say their final goodbyes.

Five officers are facing manslaughter charges in the alleged Boxing Day beating of Bartholomew, who was arrested after hugging a police woman he had mistaken for an old friend.

His mother says her youngest son was never prone to violence.

The case has stirred up a significant amount of anger among Grenadians, who claim police brutality is a common occurrence on the island.

The five officers charged will soon be out on bail, if they can afford it. Bail is set at the equivalent of about $38,000 per suspect.
