Fatal accident on highway 401

A deadly accident closed highway 401 at Yonge Street Tuesday night.

The fatal crash happened just as rain and snow started to fall in the area.

The OPP say a 23-year old Oshawa man was critically injured after a westbound car hit a tractor-trailer that was pulled over on the shoulder of the highway shortly after 8pm.

He died in hospital a few hours later.

Four passengers in the car were also transported to hospital.

The crash forced the closure of the westbound express lanes of the 401 at Yonge Street for a few hours.
