Bratina moves raises salary, questions
Hamilton Mayor admits he initiated raise for chief of staff.
In a statement released this morning, Bob Bratina says “the issue of salary review for his office is his responsibility as Mayor.”
Initially, the Hamilton mayor had said the $30-thousand hike was a decision by human resources staff who evaluated Peggy Chapman’s role, but the City’s HR chief told councillors that the mayor determined Chapman’s new salary after requesting stats on previous salaries.
Councillors spent two hours yesterday without the mayor, discussing what they say was a “code of conduct” issue about a certain individual.
Chapman has been the mayor’s chief of staff since he took office last year.
Her pay will jump from $90-thousand to $120-thousand.
