Layoffs coming in Toronto
It’s bad news for employees of the City of Toronto.
Mayor Rob Ford is planning to cut 2,300 city jobs in what’s the first mass layoff in the city’s history.
The layoffs will be a combination of current staff, along with the elimination of some positions that are currently vacant.
A total of 666 union workers will be cut, along with the elimination of 643 jobs that are currently vacant.
City agencies like the public library will lose a 150 jobs, and the TTC will lose 324 jobs, while simultaneously pushing through a fare hike for riders.
