Speeding SUV spins out, explodes; DVP drivers forced to detour
Traffic is moving again on the Don Valley Parkway in and out of downtown Toronto, after an horrific crash completely shut down the highway for part of the day.
Late this morning a speeding SUV literally went flying out of control and crashed in flames on the Don Valley heading into downtown. Witnesses say the SUV was a BMW that was speeding southbound, possibly going as quickly as 150 kilometres an hour. They say two wheels were on the median in the middle of the road when it hit a bridge abutment and went flying into the air with fire underneath, leaving behind a trial of flames.
Police say the BMW clipped as many as five other cars. Once the SUV spun around and crashed, someone from another car tried to reach in through the back door to save the driver. But it exploded before he could get him out. The BMW driver was killed but no one else was hurt.
