New sponsor, but still no cycling site set
Pan Am organizers made a games-related announcement in Toronto – but it didn’t have anything to do with the future of the velodrome.
The announcement had to do with a four year partnership with Chevrolet Canada – but the question on a lot of people’s minds is about where the cycling facility is going to be located.
As CHCH News reported last month, the town of Milton says they’re interested in the cycling facility, but the town would have to make a firm commitment by November 30th. A Milton town councillor confirms staff will present a report to council on the topic November 21st.
Also last month, Hamilton city council voted to limit spending to $5,000,000 towards the cost of the indoor cycling track. So for now, it looks like the project is not coming to Hamilton.
Toronto 2015 CEO Ian Troop says he’s been in talks with interested municipalities, but wouldn’t say who or where.
