Residents of a Hamilton apartment building are left without a place to live after a fire Saturday afternoon.

It broke out in the bedroom of a unit on the first floor of a three-storey building on Connaught Street at Main Street East.

Two men were in the apartment at the time and escaped without injuries.

One person in a neighbouring unit was taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation.

The smoke spread through the building, damaging a number of units. Residents are now left to find other accommodations.

Fire officials are still trying to determine how the fire started.

Damage is estimated at around $200,000.
