Small but devoted group of ‘Occupy’-ers gather at the Gore
The much talked-about ‘Occupy’ protests continued around the world today.
And here at home, it’s now been a week of protests, both in Toronto and Hamilton, where there was a quiet demonstration this afternoon.
Only about 30 people showed up for the ‘Occupy’ event at Gore Park.
The idea behind the gathering – like all the ‘Occupy’ movements, is to protest against the one per cent, or those that are part of a corporate system that favours the wealthy at the expense of the average citizen.
The group also met last Saturday at Gore Park, and one group organizer says they’ll meet there every Saturday to hear from the public.
In Toronto, about 1000 protestors marched from St James Park to Toronto city hall, where a number of speakers addressed the crowd at Nathan Phillips Square. New Democrat MP Olivia Chow joined the group, and says those in power should listen more carefully to the message of the protestors.
