Police jobs in jeopardy

Toronto’s police chief is putting his job in jeopardy by refusing to comply with a mandate that all City of Toronto budgets be cut by 10%.

Bill Blair has met with Mayor Rob Ford to talk about next year’s police budget.

Ford came out of the meeting saying he is not budging on his demand.

Wednesday, Blair will present a budget to his board asking for a 1.5% increase.

The police service’s board vice chair – who’s a close ally of Mayor Ford – says Blair should be replaced if he won’t make cuts.

Blair says a 10% budget cut would require layoffs of police officers and civilian staff.
